REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES
What We’ve Accomplished
At Praxis, we work together with clients and partners to meet each challenge that comes our way. No matter how complex or involved each new engineering project is, our goal is to think outside the box and provide our client with the most practical, cost effective solution that achieves the objective. Check out some of our approaches to remediation.
THERMALLY ENHANCED EXTRACTION (TEE) SATURATED & UNSATURATED ZONES
Dr. Lloyd Stewart has considerable expertise in thermal remediation and has consulted on a number of large, complex thermal projects including steam injection. Praxis performed the first application of steam injection to address DNAPL below the water table in 1997. With applied research funding Praxis demonstrated the pros, cons and limitations of steam injection.
SVE PILOT TESTING & REBOUND EVALUATIONS
Through design and engineering innovation, we achieve insightful results from SVE Pilot testing that extends to characterization and other technologies. The short-term concentration history during extraction and rebound measured with a field gas chromatograph provides information on the location and size of vadose zones sources for full scale design.
IN SITU CHEMICAL OXIDATION
We have worked with partners to implement innovative solutions using In Situ Chemical Oxidation combined or sequenced with thermal enhancements. In particular, we have formulated and successfully applied research-level remedies for NAPL contaminated sites that optimize displacement and recovery with in situ destruction.
THERMALLY ENHANCED VOLATILIZATION AND BIOLOGICAL DEGRADATION
Is SVE or bioventing getting the job done but not within the timeframe needed? We have implemented solutions that include the co-injection of air and steam to provide heat, oxygen, and moisture. Strategic placement of an injection well can result in increased volatilization for SVE and/or increased aerobic and anaerobic degradation.
BIOVENTING PILOT TESTING & RESPIRATION EVALUATIONS
We have performed bioventing pilot tests with and without thermal enhancements. The testing includes tracers; PneuLog profiles of oxygen, carbon dioxide and contaminant; and post-injection monitoring of respiration. Test locations include the deserts of Arizona and mountains of New Hampshire.
